After such a long week I am happy to have a chance to link up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade. I love each months' CURRENTLY. Finding new blogs and visiting old favourites each month is something I look forward to. Click on the link above if you want to find out what's CURRENTLY going on with all my friends in the blogiverse!
Listening: I think spring might have finally sprung in Toronto! It has been one of the longest, darkest, loneliest winters ever! I think I must suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because I am so much HAPPIER when there is sun every day!
Loving: We have had a year of labour strife in Ontario. It continues as I write this, but things might be improving. I just have to wait and see. In the meantime, workshops resumed, and I signed up to go to one this afternoon. It was nice to come home for lunch (although I didn't have much time to eat) and then park my car and walk to the workshop location. The topic was Puberty Education and I got a lot of new strategies and ideas for teaching this unit. I also received a TON of free resources, and who doesn't love a FREEBIE?
Thinking: I cannot believe that there are only 8 weeks left at school. I admit that I envy my teacher buddies to the south who are out at the end of this month, but geesh, I would never be done! I still have to teach a major unit in both science and social studies. I am glad that I have covered all the math curriculum and most of the language! Where did this year go? In my 23 years, I don't think a year has ever flown by like this!
Wanting: I really WANT a new purse. My old one is about 5 years old. I love it, but it is literally falling apart at the seams, the handles, the bottom! I cannot find another bag I like though...I have to fall in LOVE with a bag to buy it, and it had better last! Any suggestions?

Summer Bucket List: I honestly would like to say "go back to Nova Scotia" but I know this is not doable in my current situation. So...I will have to admit that the way I have my classroom organized LOOKS great, but it isn't working for me! I need to take everything out of the cupboards, and off the shelves and out of drawers and figure out a better way! I have so much stuff, but I can never lay my hands on what I need, so I buy more, and then I can't find it the following ___________(insert hour, day, week, month, year). Sad but true, I need to cross this task/chore off my bucket list!
I need to organize my classroom too! I've been working on it slowly but I think I'm making more of a mess than I started with.

I totally hear you! My room LOOKS super duper organized, but it is NOT working for me. I don't know if it's my age, or my memory failing...but I truly don't know where I put anything! My hubby has promised to help me deal with it at the end of the year. I think I may have to make a map or a detailled inventory or something!

My list of things to get done in the next 6 weeks is looming over my head, also!

The list is kind of scary isn't it? I have a colleague who says that even if I didn't do the things I have planned, my students have covered more than any other students she has met. For me this is still NOT good enough, and to add to it, I have a FULL WEEK of standardized testing coming up!
DeleteI wish you luck!

I love having the summer to get everything ready for the next year! I am looking forward to getting a lot done! This year has flown by for me as well!
ReplyDeleteCandace,
DeleteThanks so much for dropping by! It was so nice to see 5 comments when I got home tonight. I was feeling guilty because I had not posted since last Sunday! I am just so swamped that I can't even THINK of what to post. Good news though~ I am posting a linky party about favourite read alouds on the weekend, so come back and link up if you feel like it!

I always forget about end of year to do lists. They are never fun!

I couldn't agree with you more! I have been putting off the inevitable for too long though, and it's making me miserable! I feel like I am losing my mind when I can't find things I KNOW I have bought and put away. I think my students think I have lost my mind. I go from cupboard to cupboard and shelf to shelf and still don't find what I want. Must find a system that works.

We always have organization at the top of our to-do list on the first work day after the kids leave for summer! No matter how hard we try to keep up with it over the school year, there are always neglected piles to deal with by summer!

I think that you are so very smart! The first thing that I want to do on the last day is GO HOME! I usually come in late August and do everything, but this year, I think I might take your suggestion and get it done BEFORE the summer begins. That way I won't be thinking about it all summer!

Hi Sidney (I love that name!)
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same way: Not enough time... too much to do... (but I am secretly ready for summer!)
Puberty Education? I think that's what we call Family Life Education in California. One of the finer joys of teaching sixth grade!
So glad I found your blog. I hope the labor/labour issues get worked out in your favor...

Finding JOY in 6th Grade
Thanks for stopping by Kim! I have been reading your blog for quite awhile, I'm glad you found mine. I wish I lived someplace like California, so I wouldn't have to wait until May for the weather to finally get better. It sounds so cliche but we do have long winters in Canada!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
